Safety Care Re-Certifications for Early Intervention ONLY

July 7, 2020 - August 11, 2020

Special Education

These sessions are for Early Intervention Staff only. Staff should sign up for ONE session, but need to attend both days in order to receive recertification.  Once staff sign up a ZOOM link will be sent to you by the instructor.

We are not currently holding face-to-face training for Safety Care, however, we are training remotely.

In addition, QRS, the parent company of Safety Care has provided the following information:

All initial and recertification trainings were ceased in early March 2020.

If a Safety Care trainer or specialist had already passed their grace period (15 months from their last certification) by March 1, 2020, their certification had expired. They are required to take an initial retraining course.

Certification is extended for any specialist or trainer who was still certified on or after March 1, 2020.

This Certification extension will continue until 6 months beyond the date your local, state, or provincial government declared conditions under which Safety Care Training can occur.

If you are not recertified within the 6 month period of that declaration, you will be required to retake the initial Safety Care training course in order to be certified to use Safety Care procedures

If you are a trainer or specialist who has passed one year from initial training or most recent recertification and may potentially be called upon to use Safety Care physical skills you should receive additional practice and support

Participants in the training will be certified with restrictions for the physical management competencies (Elbow Check, Safety Stance, Support Guide, Protective Shuffle, Shoulder Check, Wrist Release, Stripping a Grab, Front Hair Pull, Front Choke Release, Bite Release, 1-Person Stability Hold, 2-Person Stability Hold, Floor Drop Transition, Floor Seated Stability Hold, Forward Transport, Reverse Transport, Chair Stability Hold, and Leg Wrap). Restrictions mean you are not allowed to use those physical management pieces.

Once face-to-face training begins, if you would like to be tested and pass each competency, then the restriction will be removed.

If you need more information or have any questions, please feel free to contact Lisa Kruse, ekruse@tiu11.org
