School Physical Safety Assessment Overview
Hands on workshop on conducting School Physical Safety Assessment
Region 7 is pleased to partner with Rain Public Planning.
Participants are encouraged to come as a team and bring the following items with them.
1. At least one laptop computer capable of editing Google Docs documents.
2. Current copies of your safety plans
3. Any available, Threat-Hazard Risk Assessments for your school and/or Distirct.
In this workshop, participants will learn the concepts and practices needed to enhance their district’ physical site security and safety posture. Participants will be provided with national and Commonwealth of Pennsylvania best practice physical school safety and security measures. Working together in school teams, participants will learn to applying physical safety and security principles to their school setting under the guidance of public safety assessment professional. This training will discuss at least the following topic areas:
• Vehicle/Traffic Control
• Parking area best practices
• Vegetation issues to avoid
• Trash receptacle issues
• Exterior and interior lighting measure
• Utility protective measures
• Closed Circuit Television System (CCTV) practices
• Stage 2 Visitor Vetting best practices
• Force protection measures
• Security personnel considerations
• Magnetometer use considerations
• Common K-12 school safety/security issues
• Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency (PCCD) best practices
