This session is intended for TIU11 Early Intervention Staff only. This training day will cover essential items related to early intervention service delivery and coaching, including but not limited, to the following: Credential of Competency, Determination Summary/Quality Improvement Plan, Social Emotional Competencies, Trauma-Informed Approaches, Augmentative and Alternative Communication, School Based Medical Access, and Multi-Systems of Support. Early Intervention Technical Assistance (EITA) will be on-site in the morning to complete follow-up training related to writing high-quality IEP goals. Please report to the Tuscarora Main Office building by 8:30 a.m. Training will take place in various rooms throughout the day. Participants in attendance all day will receive 6 hours towards Act 48.
*For the afternoon, please register for a total of two breakout sessions that are of interest to you, please select one session from each time slot listed below. Paraprofessionals are required to register for MA 101: The Nuts & Bolts of the MA Billing Process; however other staff are welcome to attend if interested.

Developing Social Emotional Competencies in the Early Childhood Setting – Dr. Jenny Morgan
Participants will learn about the development of social-emotional and executive functioning skills from birth to pre-school years and the influence these skills have on adaptive and learning behaviors. Participants will gain an understanding of barriers that influence the development of social-emotional competencies. Participants will be able to identify a variety of adverse childhood experiences that change the child’s body chemistry and relate directly to their physical and mental health. Classroom staff and related service providers will be able to learn how to apply practical classroom strategies that facilitate the development of social-emotional competencies and emotional regulation and identify methods that foster collaboration with parents/caregivers to support carryover in the home setting.

This session will explore the classroom practices that every adult educator can utilize to create a trauma informed classroom through instructional practices. These practices will foster both adult and student emotional regulation, ground classroom strategies into routines, and foster a sense of safety and belonging.

This session will give an overview of the steps involved in billing for an MA eligible student, suggestions for logging effectively, as well as the requirements that must be met in that process. Time will also be reserved to answer your specific MA billing questions.

This session will provide an introduction to assistive technology (AT) and its applications in early intervention settings. Participants will gain a foundational understanding of AT, explore products through a presentation by an AbleNet representative, and learn about assistive technology materials available online as well as through the TIU 11 and PaTTAN lending libraries.

In this session, we will discuss the process and procedures once a child transitions to kindergarten with an IEP. Additionally, we will introduce a multi-tiered systems framework (MTSS) and discuss schools within our systems that utilize this framework of support for ALL students. Participants will have a clear understanding of expectations for early literacy, early math instruction and behaviors support within the school age setting.
